I'm improving my server by swtiching to Ethernet, moving to a location with better airflow, and installing Alpine Linux on it
The laptop got REALLY hot (we're talking 90-100°C) during simple stuff like adding new images to Immich, so we gotta do something about that before I can put it back up.

The victim

Our tortured victim is an old MBP Mid-2012 that I daily-drove back in the day (by that I mean 2022-2025, lol)

Specs: CPU: Intel Core i5-3210M @ 2.50GHz RAM: 8 GB (upgraded from 4 GB) Storage: 1 TB Kodak SSD (128 GB is allocated for the OS, however I do have a spare 120 GB SSD that I could use, if you know how HMU pls) OS: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (yeah, not the server version... the one with GNOME... sorry...) Other specs aren't important cuz its a server now

As for the current condition, it has a cracked screen glass (but the screen itself is more than fine), the battery life is HORRIBLE, also I accidentally busted the speakers (thanks VLC for more than 100% volume)
The rubber legs are replaced with some for furniture, they work so its fine.

To-do:

• Use 120 GB SSD for system
• Switch to server Linux (maybe Alpine?)
• Change thermal paste
• Do something about high temperatures (need a proper cooling system)
• Set up backups
• Switch to Ethernet for much higher speeds
